iToro vs Echo Prayer and PrayerMate

Reviewed August 27, 2026. Written by Lawrence Adjah, who builds iToro, so read this as an informed argument rather than a neutral review. Every claim about Echo Prayer is sourced from Echo Prayer's own public materials, linked at the bottom.

A note before the detail. We do not think of the other apps on this page as rivals. Everyone building here is trying to help people pray, and that is the same work. This page exists because someone deciding where to spend their attention deserves a straight account of what each one actually does, including the parts where the other app is the better answer.

Short answer

This is the comparison that actually matters for churches and small groups. Echo Prayer and PrayerMate are prayer list organisers: they solve remembering. iToro solves being heard. If your group's problem is that people forget to pray, Echo or PrayerMate is the better tool and cheaper too. If your group's problem is that requests go into a feed and nothing visibly comes back, iToro is the answer.

The one-line difference

On iToro every prayer is a human voice, and it works both ways: live one-to-one audio with a real person, and recorded voice prayers you can replay. There is no text-only prayer to send or receive.

As of August 27, 2026, of the prayer apps we reviewed for this page — Hallow, Glorify, Pray.com, Echo Prayer, PrayerMate, Send A Prayer and Spoken Prayers — none combine live one-to-one audio prayer with asynchronous voice prayer, and none make voice the only modality. Send A Prayer and Spoken Prayers do let you record a prayer and send it to someone, so iToro is not the only app with voice prayers; neither offers live prayer with a person. The rest are guided content libraries or text prayer lists. If you find a counterexample, tell us and we will correct this page.

What each one actually is

Echo Prayer keeps track of your prayers: categories, reminders, marking prayers as answered, sharing with individuals or small groups, and Prayer Feeds that churches, missionaries and organisations publish for followers. Core use is free; an ECHO+ membership unlocks creating feeds and advanced sharing.

PrayerMate works on prayer cards and daily reminders, with over 500 prayer feeds from Christian organisations, groups for sharing requests, and a church platform for publishing feeds. It is free on iOS and Android.

Both are text-based. Neither describes voice or audio prayer between users. That is not a criticism; it is a different design.

iToro inverts the model. A request does not go onto a list, it goes to people, and what comes back is a recording of someone praying for you by name, or a live audio prayer with them.

An honest note for church leaders: these tools are not mutually exclusive, and the combination many groups actually want is a list organiser for the weekly prayer rhythm plus something that lets a member in a hard week hear real voices. Do not let anyone, including us, tell you it has to be one.

Choose Echo Prayer if

  • Your problem is consistency and remembering, not connection.
  • You want to mark prayers answered and look back over time.
  • Your church already publishes a prayer feed people follow.
  • You want the whole thing free forever, in which case PrayerMate is hard to beat.
  • Your members prefer reading and quiet, private prayer to voice.
  • Choose iToro if

  • Requests go into your group and nothing visibly comes back.
  • You want members to hear each other pray, not just read a list.
  • You want a request covered around the clock by a succession of people.
  • You want your church or campus space private, with requests staying inside it.
  • You want people outside the app to be able to pray for a member from a link.
  • What this page does not claim

We have not compared reminder flexibility, list organisation depth, offline behaviour or feed catalogues, and Echo Prayer and PrayerMate are stronger than iToro on all of those, because iToro does not try to do them. ECHO+ pricing changes and is set per store, so we do not quote it. PrayerMate's free status is as described on their own site on the date checked.

    Pricing

PrayerMate describes itself as completely free on iOS and Android. Echo Prayer has a free core with a paid ECHO+ membership for creating feeds and advanced sharing; check their site for current pricing. iToro is free to download and use, with an optional premium subscription that removes the give-to-receive limits and keeps voice prayers permanently.
